W/Bank Technical Mission Engages LWSC

MONROVIA: A Technical Support Mission from the World Bank is currently in Liberia holding discussions with the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) as part of a week-long visit aimed at reviewing progress under the Liberia Urban Water Sanitation Project (LUWSP).

The LUWSP, funded by the World Bank, is designed to improve water supply infrastructure and sanitation services in urban areas, with a focus on strengthening the reliability and efficiency of Liberia’s water distribution system.

During their stay, members of the mission are assessing ongoing project activities to evaluate progress made since the previous visit.

The team is also reviewing progress reports and engaging LWSC management and technical staff on the status of various components of the project and related activities.

A major area of focus for the mission is the civil works contract, particularly critical technical elements such as pressure testing and quality assurance measures to ensure the durability and effectiveness of the infrastructure being installed.

As part of the project, the World Bank is financing the replacement of approximately 10 kilometers of LWSC’s aging 36-inch transmission pipeline. The upgrade is expected to significantly improve water flow, reduce leakages, and enhance service delivery to residents in Monrovia and surrounding communities.

LWSC officials say the engagement with the World Bank mission provides an opportunity to strengthen coordination, address technical challenges, and ensure that project implementation remains on track to deliver improved water services to the public.
